SHIP HISTORY – USS NOMAD CERTIFICATIONS
Long before the first starships set off for wild adventures exploring space, galaxies, and other worlds, brave explorers set off on tall ships with billowing sails for ‘their’ wild adventures at sea. With waves lapping at the wooden hulls the crew tended to their daily duties of sailing, navigating, and maintenance of the ship to ensure a safe return to their home port.
As time went on and ships became larger and more complex, so too was the need for crew members to gain additional knowledge and expertise of their duties. One way to ensure the crew had the essential skills was to vigorously train, drill, and test them before leaving dock. In this way, the seaworthiness of both vessel and crew would be proven.
Abiding by this time-honoured tradition, STARFLEET (Fleet) vessels undergo a similar vessel readiness process. The ship is broken up into departments, such as Command, Communications, Engineering, Security, Medical, Stellar Cartography, and various others. These departments are then inspected to ensure they are ready for service in the Fleet. In order to pass inspections, each department has to meet certain specific certification requirements for vessel readiness. A ship will therefore become fully certified by this partnership of the Inspection Department personnel working closely together with all other ship crew members within the various departments.
To obtain this goal and in keeping with the time-honoured tradition of train, drill, and test, STARFLEET requires their members to fulfill department-specific courses offered by STARFLEET Academy. Individuals can choose to take these courses for their own entertainment, Academy-issued diplomas, rank promotions, or participate in vessel readiness certification.
As the cohesive unit that it is, the USS Nomad crew is striving to obtain as many vessel readiness certifications as possible; and, as the crew continues to train and provide us with their course certificates we will continue the ongoing process of submitting readiness applications for the USS Nomad.
